Network development

The German transmission system operators make a major contribution to securing energy supplies with their high-availability natural gas infrastructure which has been expanded in line with demand.

To do so, the transmission system operators draw up every two years a joint ten-year network development plan in close coordination with relevant market participants, which is submitted to the German Federal Network Agency on 1 April.

At the European level, ENTSOG prepares a European network development plan every two years, which also includes regional investment plans (GRIP).

Calculating the long-term capacity requirement in accordance with Section 17 of the Gas Network Access Ordinance (GasNZV)

The long-term capacity requirement calculated annually for every market area as of 1 April forms the data set for planning extension work.

GTG performs this process in three stages:

Stage Duration

1. Calculation of variable factors affecting

the requirement in accordance with

Section 17 paragraph 1 of the Gas

Network Access Ordinance (GasNZV)

September-October

2. Analysis and calculation of necessary

work

November-February
3. Reporting for the market area March

The calculation of the long-term capacity requirement relealed

that, for the GTG network area, there was no need for commercial work to

increase capacity.
